A series of mountain accidents occurred over the weekend as hikers visiting mountains in the Gangwon region suffered falls and other injuries.
The Seoraksan National Park Office stated that at approximately 3:05 p.m. today (June 27), they received a report that a Polish woman in her 60s had collapsed on a trail near the upper cable car station at Gwongeumseong Fortress on Seoraksan Mountain.
The woman was transported to a nearby hospital in cardiac arrest but was later pronounced dead.
Earlier, at approximately 7:55 a.m., a hiker in their 30s was rescued by helicopter after suffering an ankle injury near Oseam Hermitage on Seoraksan Mountain in Buk-myeon, Inje-gun.
Around 1:10 p.m., a hiker in their 70s near Daegeumgul Cave on Deokhangsan Mountain in Daei-ri, Singi-myeon, Samcheok-si, received assistance from a rescue team after experiencing leg cramps and was handed over to their companions after descending.
At approximately 2:40 p.m., a hiker in their 70s fell and sustained injuries to the head and other areas near Dongdae Gwaneumam Hermitage on Odaesan Mountain in Dongsan-ri, Jinbu-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun.
This hiker was accompanied down the mountain by a rescue team and subsequently transported to a hospital.
