Ukraine, which has been focusing its strikes on Russian energy infrastructure, has signaled an even higher level of offensive operations.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on social media on June 26 (local time) that he has approved a 40-day influence operation by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) aimed at pressuring Russia to end the war.
He stated, "The Security Service has been showing the best results for months in maintaining defensive positions on the front lines using various types of drones."
The Security Service of Ukraine is an intelligence agency responsible for counter-espionage and counter-terrorism missions, and it has recently been leading long-range drone attacks targeting Russia.
In April, it directed an attack on an oil pumping station in Russia's Perm Krai, located 1,500 km away from Ukraine.
President Zelenskyy did not disclose the specific details of the 40-day operation.
However, given that he has made it clear that the goal is to bring Russia to the negotiating table, it is interpreted as an intention to further increase the intensity of the offensive.
While focusing its strikes on Russia's energy-related facilities, Ukraine has also recently been raising the level of its offensive targeting Moscow and the Crimean Peninsula.
As Ukrainian drones have flown into Moscow in large numbers, there are observations that Russia is relocating its air defense systems to areas near its capital.
The Crimean Peninsula, which Russia has been effectively controlling since its forced annexation in 2014, is reportedly suffering from an energy crisis as supplies of electricity and oil have been disrupted.
