The Russian Foreign Ministry has claimed that South Korea should cease its pressure and sanctions against North Korea.
The Russian Foreign Ministry included this stance in a statement released on June 25 (local time) following a meeting between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko and South Korean Ambassador to Russia Lee Seok-bae.
In the statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry said, "We conveyed our concern to the South Korean side that the ongoing confrontational military activities by South Korea and the United States near the North Korean border are escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula and throughout the region."
It also stated that it urged South Korea to "abandon its policy of pressure and sanctions against Pyongyang and demonstrate its commitment to peace through concrete actions, rather than just words."
The Russian Foreign Ministry added, "We expressed regret that despite South Korea's repeated statements that it wishes to normalize relations with Russia, it is publicly aligning itself with the anti-Russian attacks by the West, including the European Union (EU)."
