The national football team, led by head coach Hong Myung-bo, lost 0-1 to South Africa in their final Group A match of the 2026 North and Central America World Cup.

Although a draw would have been enough to secure a spot in the Round of 32 as the group runner-up, the team fell to third place following a lackluster performance, leaving their fate dependent on the results of other groups.
