Gumi Mayor Kim Jang-ho has proposed an unconventional support plan to attract semiconductor fabrication plants (fabs) by offering industrial land at a price of 1,000 won per pyeong.
During a press conference held at Gumi City Hall today (June 25), Mayor Kim stated, "The Gumi National Industrial Complex is the optimal location for the future of the semiconductor industry and balanced national development." He added, "To attract investment, we will actively consider unprecedented support measures, including the supply of land in the second phase of the Gumi National Industrial Complex 5 at a rate of 1,000 won per pyeong."
He continued, "As the semiconductor industry is a core strategic sector that determines the nation's future, market competitiveness and industrial efficiency are of the utmost importance."
Mayor Kim also emphasized that Gumi possesses all the essential infrastructure required for semiconductor production, including power, water supply, and industrial land.
Furthermore, he pledged, "We will provide the highest level of incentives and administrative support in the country to companies that invest in semiconductor fabs here."
Today's press conference was organized to highlight Gumi's competitiveness and its commitment to attracting investment, following recent discussions regarding the potential establishment of semiconductor fabs in the Honam region.
Gumi City has recently been working to expand its semiconductor industry ecosystem by pursuing projects such as the creation of a high-tech semiconductor research complex, the establishment of a semiconductor materials and components testing center, and the development of a testbed for manufacturing and verifying materials and components for semiconductor equipment chambers.
