A South Korean man in his 30s has been arrested by local police in Thailand for posting explicit content, including videos of himself engaging in sexual acts with locals, on social media.
The Thai Immigration Bureau arrested the 30-year-old South Korean man, identified as A, at a luxury hotel in Pattaya, Chonburi Province, on June 21.
Police had been investigating the case after becoming aware that A had been uploading videos of himself engaging in sexual acts with Thai locals to his X (formerly Twitter) account.
Photos and videos released from the time of the arrest show police raiding the hotel room and A in a state of nudity.
A was questioned while sitting on the bed, covering his lower body with a single towel, with his entire body—including his arms, shoulders, back, and thighs—covered in tattoos.
Local police discovered and seized various drugs from A's hotel room as evidence, including 21.36g of methamphetamine, 304.32g of ketamine, and 296 ecstasy pills.
A has been charged under Thai criminal law with inputting obscene information into a computer system, distributing obscene material, and possession of Category 1 and 2 narcotics with intent to sell.
It is reported that A admitted to uploading the videos in question during police questioning.
However, it has not yet been determined whether the individuals appearing in the videos consented to the filming or if A profited financially from distributing the footage.
Police plan to expand their investigation to trace the source of the seized drugs and to determine if there are any accomplices or links to other cases.
Under Article 14 of Thailand's Computer Crime Act, the act of posting or distributing obscene material online can be punishable by up to five years in prison or a fine of up to approximately 4.6 million won.
