The joint investigation team probing the ballot shortage incident that occurred during the June 3 local elections has launched a compulsory investigation into officials from the Seoul Metropolitan and Songpa-gu Election Commissions.

The joint investigation team announced today (June 24) that it conducted raids on 3 officials from the Seoul Metropolitan Election Commission and 9 officials from the Songpa-gu Election Commission to meticulously reconstruct the situation regarding the ballot shortage on election day.

The team is investigating allegations that the election commission hastily decided to reduce the number of printed ballots and failed to respond appropriately on the day of the election.

Suspicions regarding the disposal or loss of ballot storage boxes that occurred after the election are also included in the scope of the investigation.

Previously, the joint investigation team raided the election commission and other locations on June 11 to secure voting records and internal approval documents.

Yesterday, the team received and is currently analyzing materials and review documents from the committee established to uncover the truth behind the ballot shortage incident.
