The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs announced today that the 76th anniversary ceremony of the Korean War will be held at the Suwon Convention Center tomorrow (June 25) to honor the sacrifices and contributions of Korean War veterans.
The event, held under the theme "The Republic of Korea Protected by Heroes, Shining in the World," is expected to be attended by approximately 1,000 people, including war veterans, the younger generation, key government and military officials, and diplomatic envoys from countries that participated in the war.
The Pledge of Allegiance will be recited by Army Captain Choi Dae-won, a descendant of a Korean War veteran, and a ceremony will be held to award military service medals to three individuals who served as irregular forces during the Korean War.
The Kagnew Choir, composed of descendants of the "Kagnew Battalion"—the Ethiopian troops deployed during the Korean War—will also attend the ceremony to perform Arirang.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs plans to produce commemorative plaques symbolizing the remembrance of the sacrifices and dedication of those who died in the Korean War, which will be presented sequentially to approximately 35,000 bereaved families of fallen and deceased soldiers.
This year, the plaques will be presented to about 7,000 bereaved family members (born before June 1945), starting with the oldest. In collaboration with the Korea Post, "mail carriers in uniform" will deliver the plaques with the utmost respect.
