Iran Declares 3-Day Public Holiday in Capital for Funeral of Late Supreme Leader

The Iranian government has declared a three-day public holiday in the capital, Tehran, for the funeral of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who died in U.S. and Israeli airstrikes early in the war, Iranian state television reported on June 23 (local time).

Hassan Hassanzadeh, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and head of the funeral committee, stated, "Farewell ceremonies and prayers for our martyred leader will be held at the Grand Mosalla in Tehran on July 4 and 5, with the main funeral service taking place on July 6. Accordingly, Tehran Province will be on holiday during these three days."

Previously, Iranian state media reported that the Tehran region would be designated as a public holiday on July 4 and 5, and that the entire country of Iran would observe a public holiday on July 6, the day of the funeral.
