It has been revealed that the police are struggling to identify a woman dubbed "Ol-darc," who gained notoriety for single-handedly blocking sports organization officials from entering a vote-counting station in Jamsil for two hours.
Given that the woman blocked the entrance for an extended period and footage of her face has already been widely circulated online, many are questioning why the police have yet to identify her.
The police are currently conducting investigations into 36 cases related to the blockade protest at the Jamsil vote-counting station at Olympic Park in Seoul.
In particular, they have identified and summoned two of the nine individuals who blocked Korean Sport & Olympic Committee officials from entering the counting station on June 16.
However, the identity of the woman who gripped the door handle and prevented the sports organization's entry for nearly two hours remains unknown.
It is reported that because the woman did not disclose her identity at the scene and was allowed to leave, the police must now resort to indirect methods, such as applying for telecommunications warrants, to secure her identity.
The fact that no official complaints or accusations have been filed by the affected sports organization is also a contributing factor.
The woman has not yet been transitioned to the status of a suspect.
The police are currently in the stage of conducting a pre-investigation inquiry targeting "unspecified individuals."
Some have raised suspicions that the police might be delaying the identification process due to public opinion, given that the blockade lasted for a long time and photos and videos of the incident are widespread.
In response, a police official stated, "We are looking into it through various methods, but she has not been identified yet," adding that they are "currently tracking her."
Experts explained that even when numerous videos showing a person's face are released, it often takes a significant amount of time to actually confirm an identity, contrary to public expectations.
This is because there are no fingerprints available, and since she was not forcibly taken into custody, identification is possible only through investigative inquiries.
The process can take even longer if the individual has no prior criminal record.
However, if a third party, such as the sports organization, files a formal complaint or accusation in the future, the necessity of handling the case will increase, which could accelerate the investigation.
