A shootout in a busy area of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, on June 22 (local time) left two people, including a police officer and a resident, dead, while the suspect was killed at the scene.

According to the Montreal police, the shooting occurred at a building in the Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood at approximately 11:30 a.m. that day.

Police were dispatched to the scene after receiving a report that a firearm was visible outside a hotel window. However, the suspect, who was waiting inside the building, opened fire indiscriminately at the officers, leading to a full-scale shootout.

During the exchange, one responding police officer and one local resident were killed at the scene.

Another police officer and another resident were also wounded by gunfire and transported to a hospital.

The male suspect, who was wearing camouflage clothing, was killed at the scene by police return fire.

Immediately after the incident, authorities in Quebec issued a public safety alert and evacuation order for the area at 12:30 p.m., fearing that an additional suspect might be at large. However, after a search, authorities confirmed it was a lone-wolf attack and lifted the evacuation order about three hours later.

In a press conference held in the afternoon, police stated, "There is no immediate threat at this time."

The Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood, where the incident occurred, is known as a center for Jewish settlement following the war.

AFP reported that the scene of the incident is an area densely packed with kosher restaurants and grocery stores frequented by members of the Jewish community, but the motive for the crime or any connection to the community has not been confirmed.
