The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family announced that it held the 51st Child Support Implementation Deliberation Committee on June 8–9 and decided on a total of 184 sanctions against 166 individuals who have defaulted on child support payments.

By type of sanction, there were 120 cases of travel bans, 41 cases of driver's license suspensions, and 23 cases of public disclosure of names.

The average amount of child support in arrears was approximately 45 million won, with the highest amount reaching about 192 million won.

The current Child Support Implementation Act allows for sanctions against individuals who have failed to fulfill their obligations for more than 30 days after receiving a lump-sum payment order in a family litigation, or those who have failed to pay child support three or more times or have accumulated arrears exceeding 30 million won after receiving an implementation order.

The number of sanctions has been increasing, from 359 cases in 2022 to 639 in 2023, 947 in 2024, and 1,389 last year.

This year, 720 sanctions have already been decided in the first half alone.

Minister of Gender Equality and Family Won Min-kyung stated, "The burden remains heavy for single-parent families who are struggling alone to raise their children because child support is not paid on time," adding, "As child support is a minimum responsibility for a child's growth and livelihood, we will continue to develop effective punitive measures."
