The National Assembly will hold a plenary session today (June 18) to adopt a plan for a parliamentary investigation into the ballot shortage incident that occurred during the June 3 local elections.

During today's session, rival parties plan to approve the roster of members for the "Special Committee on Parliamentary Investigation into the Truth Behind the Infringement of Voting Rights, Including the Ballot Shortage During the 9th Nationwide Simultaneous Local Elections, and Electoral Management Reform," as well as the investigation plan.

The special committee consists of 18 members: nine from the Democratic Party, seven from the People Power Party, and two from minor parties without a parliamentary negotiating bloc.

Representative Yoon Sang-hyun of the People Power Party has been tapped to chair the committee.

In accordance with the bipartisan agreement, the committee will launch its investigation today, targeting the National Election Commission and its regional offices, for a period of 45 days.

The duration of the investigation may be extended if further inquiries are deemed necessary.

In addition to the parliamentary investigation plan, the plenary session is also expected to process approximately 30 non-controversial bills agreed upon by the rival parties.
