Actor Kim Soo-hyun is set to appear as a witness in the trial of Kim Se-ui, head of Hover Lab, who has been indicted on charges of defamation.
According to legal sources, the 26th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Lee Hyun-kyung) has summoned Kim Soo-hyun as a witness for the trial hearing scheduled for November 11 on charges including violations of the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, etc. and the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes.
Since the charges include violations of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes, the witness interrogation is expected to be conducted privately.
Kim Se-ui was indicted and detained in June on charges of spreading false information via YouTube and other platforms, claiming that Kim Soo-hyun had a relationship with the late Kim Sae-ron when she was a minor, and that pressure from Kim Soo-hyun's side regarding debt repayment was the direct cause of Kim Sae-ron's death.
He was also charged with defaming Kim Soo-hyun by circulating an AI-generated fake voice of Kim Sae-ron, unauthorized disclosure of Kim Soo-hyun's private photos, and threatening to expose materials related to his personal life.
Kim Se-ui has denied all charges.
He previously requested a trial by jury, but the request was denied.
He has also applied for bail citing mental illness and is awaiting the court's decision.
Bail is a procedure in which the court releases a defendant from custody during trial, subject to the payment of bail or other appropriate conditions.
