Having regained control of Congress, the Democratic Party is stepping up pressure on President Trump, warning him to immediately end the Iran war that has triggered a surge in oil prices.

Hakeem Jeffries, the Democratic House Minority Leader who is poised to become the first Black Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, described the midterm election victory as an "American tsunami" and named stabilizing the cost of living as an urgent and core priority.
[Hakeem Jeffries / U.S. Democratic House Leader : I promised that from day one of the new Congress, we would fight to make 'an America of affordability' a reality, and that is what we must do.]
In particular, he pointed out that the Iran war has significantly driven up gas prices, fertilizer costs, and grocery bills, pressing President Trump to end the war before the new Congress is sworn in.
Chuck Schumer, the Democratic Senate Leader, also urged an immediate end to a war being fought without a clear reason.
[Chuck Schumer / U.S. Democratic Senate Leader : The American people have no idea what we are even fighting for in Iran. The war must come to an end.]
Once the new Congress convenes next January, Democrats are poised not only to slash war budgets or pass legislation to halt the war, but also to launch extensive investigations into the Pentagon's war execution and decision-making processes.
Amid reports that the House could vote as early as next week on an impeachment motion against Defense Secretary Hegseth—who led the Iran war—some anti-Trump Republican lawmakers are also reportedly willing to support the impeachment vote.
Legislation to limit Trump's tariff authority to stabilize prices or to restore healthcare funding cuts made by Republicans is also under discussion.
[Abdul El-Sayed / U.S. Democratic Senator-Elect : The very first and most important thing we need to do is preempt the worst harms of this massive, terrible (Medicaid funding cut) bill.]
However, President Trump has signaled that he will counter Democratic attempts to roll back his policies with vetoes, making a clash between the two sides inevitable.
