The University of Seoul has filed a police complaint against two examinees caught possessing or using smart glasses during an early admissions essay exam.

According to data submitted by the Ministry of Education to the office of Democratic Party lawmaker Ko Min-jung, the Seoul Dongdaemun Police Station received the complaint regarding the two individuals who committed cheating during the essay exam at the University of Seoul on October 26.

Earlier on October 3, the University of Seoul caught two examinees wearing or possessing smart glasses equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) functions in the mathematics essay exam room for the natural sciences track.

The university immediately expelled them from the test site and stripped them of eligibility to take the University of Seoul entrance exams for the next three years.

In addition, following a review by the Admissions Management Committee on October 13, the university decided to file a police complaint against the two cheaters.

On October 29, the Ministry of Education announced a "response plan regarding cheating using smart glasses in the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT)."

The ministry stated it would take active measures to criminally punish cheating utilizing smart glasses, and announced plans to deploy dedicated personnel to each test center to prevent cheating using AI smart glasses ahead of the upcoming CSAT.

The ministry also recommended that universities take measures equivalent to those for the CSAT against individuals caught cheating in university-specific exams.
