A Taekwondo dojang director in Jinju, Gyeongsangnam-do, has been booked by police on charges of repeatedly striking an elementary school student on the head with a mobile phone.
The reason was that the child had used a mobile phone inside a vehicle.
According to the Jinju Police Station, a man in his 40s surnamed A, who operates the Taekwondo dojang, is accused of striking an elementary student surnamed B, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, about 10 times on the head with a mobile phone while dropping off students in a vehicle on October 29.
The reason for the assault was that B had violated the rule prohibiting the use of mobile phones inside the vehicle.
Due to the incident, B sustained injuries to his head and received hospital treatment.
At the time, B's older sister and other students were also riding in the back seat of the vehicle.
The incident came to light after B's sister filmed the situation with her mobile phone, and a post containing details of the assault along with the video were uploaded to social media.
The released video clearly contains the voice of a man presumed to be A hurling verbal abuse, along with the sound of something being struck.
Police have booked A on charges of child abuse under the Child Welfare Act and are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident.
