Actor Jeon Do-yeon received the Best Actress award at the Korean Association of Film Critics Awards after 20 years for the film "Possible Love".
On November 4, the 46th Korean Association of Film Critics Awards ceremony took place at Theater 1 of Cinematheque KOFA at the Korean Film Archive.
After being announced as the Best Actress winner, Jeon Do-yeon shared, "I want to thank everyone who presented me with this award. The last time I received an award at the Korean Association of Film Critics Awards was for 'Secret Sunshine.' Although I stand here as Shin-ae in 'Secret Sunshine' and as Mi-ok in 'Possible Love,' I have returned as a new character in every project." She continued, "Whether (that project or role) won awards, received lots of love, or did not, the winner of the Best Actress award in my own heart was always me. That is how I have lived, cheering on and protecting myself, and moving forward, I will continue to walk my path well just as I always have."
She added, "Everyone knows well that this Best Actress award was not achieved by my efforts alone. I believe this should be received together with fellow actors including Sul Kyung-gu, Cho Yeo-jeong, and Zo In-sung, as well as the staff members of 'Possible Love' who held down the set." She went on to say, "We always call it 'Director Lee Chang-dong magic.' It seems that thanks to the 'Director Lee Chang-dong magic,' I am standing here once again after 20 years. Thank you."
In "Possible Love," Jeon Do-yeon plays Mi-ok, the wife of a laid-off worker. She portrays a character who struggles to maintain the stability of her family while never losing her own romanticism and convictions. Jeon Do-yeon garnered acclaim both domestically and internationally by delicately and calmly portraying the anxiety and sorrow hidden behind Mi-ok's clear smile.
Having kicked off the awards season on a positive note with the Best Actress award at the Korean Association of Film Critics Awards, Jeon Do-yeon is also nominated for Best Actress at the 47th Blue Dragon Film Awards and Outstanding Lead Performance at the 36th Gotham Awards, taking on the challenge of securing wins both at home and abroad.
"Possible Love" will be released on Netflix on November 6.
