A large number of illegal distribution ads and false or exaggerated advertisements for medical devices have been caught by regulatory authorities.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced that it inspected online advertisements for medical devices such as laser hair removal devices and thermometers from October 19 to 23, catching 156 posts that violated the Medical Devices Act.
Among the detected cases, the vast majority—151 cases—were illegal distribution ads, while the remaining 5 cases were compiled as violations of advertising review regulations.
The ministry requested the Korea Communications Standards Commission and online platform operators to block access to the fraudulent advertisements, while planning to conduct on-site inspections through local governments with jurisdiction.
