A man in his 20s caught for theft at a convenience store in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, has turned out to be a drug "thrower" (courier) who had hidden drugs in a nearby large apartment complex.

The Seoul Yangcheon Police Station announced that they arrested a man in his 20s, surnamed A, red-handed on charges of stealing items from a convenience store in Mok-dong, Seoul, at around 1:40 p.m. on October 18.

During the arrest process, police discovered drugs in A's belongings, and he also tested positive in a preliminary drug screening, according to authorities.

Investigations revealed that A drank a beverage laced with philopon (methamphetamine) purchased at the convenience store and attempted to steal items such as a mobile phone battery before being caught following a report by a convenience store employee.

Police investigations also revealed that A operated as a "thrower" who hid drugs in three buildings of a nearby Mok-dong apartment complex.

On October 26, the police referred A to the prosecution under custody on charges including violations of the Narcotics Control Act.
