Voting for the U.S. midterm elections, which began at 7:00 PM yesterday Korea time, is heading into its final stages.
Voting in Indiana and Kentucky closed at 8:00, about two hours ago.
Voting is scheduled to conclude entirely with western Alaska around 3:00 PM.
In this midterm election, all 435 members of the House of Representatives and 35 out of the 100 members of the Senate are up for election.
The ruling Republican Party currently controls both the House and the Senate in the U.S., but the landscape of congressional power could shift depending on the outcome.
The biggest variables determining voter sentiment are economic conditions, including high inflation and surging oil prices triggered by the war with Iran.
[Chris / New Jersey Voter: Inflation is the most important thing. Like everyone else, it is really hard to afford the cost of living these days. I do not expect anyone to fix it completely, but I hope they can try to make things better than they are now.]
The outlines of the winners and losers are projected to emerge starting this afternoon, Korea time.
Harvard University predicted that the Democratic Party has a 96% probability of taking control of the House and a 78% chance of capturing the Senate.
President Trump focused on rallying conservative voters until the very end, calling the Democratic Party the "House of Satan."
[Donald Trump / U.S. President: Remember when you vote. We must not let a party that hates America govern the people who built our country.]
In an interview with Fox News, he claimed that everything is going well and that the election results will be better than people think.
On the other hand, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer predicted that a new Democratic majority will be born in the Senate.
Because voting systems vary by state and many districts are considered tight races, the possibility has also been raised that it could take more than a week to determine the majority parties in the House and Senate.
