The three major U.S. stock indexes opened mixed as investors awaited the results of the midterm elections.
At 9:55 a.m. on November 3 (local time) at the New York Stock Exchange, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 270.84 points, or 0.52%, to 51,713.14.

Market participants are closely awaiting the midterm election outcomes.
According to opinion polls, the Democratic Party is expected to take control of the House of Representatives, while which party will control the Senate remains uncertain.
A decline in oil prices helped boost investor sentiment.
Citing sources, the UK-based Arab media outlet Al-Araby Al-Jadeed reported that the U.S. has approved a draft memorandum of understanding (MOU) on ending the war proposed by Iran.
The outlet added, "The U.S. and Iran have made concessions regarding Iran's nuclear program and frozen funds issues."
In an interview with Fox News, President Donald Trump stated that aid to Israel would be halted after the end of this year.
Societe Generale diagnosed, "Growing concerns over government spending and fiscal deficits are affecting market volatility. Broad negotiations will still be required for meaningful fiscal expansion, and with the Democratic Party likely to control the House, the legislative environment could become even more deadlocked."
By sector, technology and industrial stocks showed strength, while materials and utilities traded lower.
Apple shares fell 2%.
The decline was driven by disappointing quarterly revenue guidance, even though its third-quarter earnings announced after the market close the previous day generally beat market expectations.
Apple projected its quarterly revenue growth to be between 7% and 10% compared to the same period last year.
This fell short of the market expectation of 11.4%.
Palantir shares dropped 5% despite beating earnings expectations.
Palantir reported third-quarter adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of $0.44 and revenue of $2.31 billion, both surpassing market estimates of $0.41 and $2.18 billion, respectively.
Life sciences company Revity saw its shares surge 11.15% after raising its annual EPS guidance from the previous $5.30–$5.40 to $5.40–$5.45.
European stock markets also traded mixed.
The Euro Stoxx 50 index was down 0.07% at 6,171.66.
Germany's DAX index and the UK's FTSE 100 index fell 0.18% and 0.71%, respectively, while France's CAC 40 index rose 0.14%.
International oil prices declined.
At the same time, the front-month December 2026 delivery West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil was down 0.49% at $95.99 per barrel.
