U.S. President Donald Trump stated on November 3 (local time) that the U.S. struck Iran's air defense facilities the previous night, hinting at the possibility of launching additional military strikes if necessary.
In an interview with Fox News' "Fox & Friends" that day, President Trump said, "Iran built an air defense facility, and it took about two months. We watched the facility being constructed, and as soon as it was completed, we struck it very well last night."
He explained, "It was just a small attack, not a war."
Previously, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that the U.S. had attacked Geshm Island, a strategic Iranian location in the Strait of Hormuz, the day before.
It has not been confirmed whether the air defense facility strike mentioned by President Trump refers to the previously reported attack on Geshm Island.
Regarding the future course of the conflict with Iran following the midterm elections, President Trump left the door open for additional strikes, stating, "I don't want to kill a lot of people, but if it's necessary, we'll have to do it."
However, he added, "It's not that I'm trying to do that," showing a cautious stance as well.
Regarding the conflict with Iran, President Trump asserted, "Actually, this is not a war," arguing that the U.S. merely struck Iran heavily in the beginning and that the situation differs from long-term battles between two countries like Russia and Ukraine.
