Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok, and independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon—all viewed as potential heavyweights in the conservative opposition—each made public appearances at the National Assembly at around the same time today (November 3). Standing at a crossroads, which way did People Power Party lawmakers lean?
Reporter Kim Bo-mi went to the scene.

At a forum co-hosted by independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon.
Eighteen People Power Party lawmakers were in attendance.
[Kim Gi-hyeon / People Power Party Lawmaker: "I wonder if you're interested in party reform or if you're interested in the person's name (Han Dong-hoon)."]
Lawmaker Han sharply criticized the current nomination system that centers on the party leader.
[Han Dong-hoon / Independent Lawmaker: "The party is being run like a private circle where seizing party leadership at all costs is the only goal."]
About 30 minutes in, lawmakers began quietly slipping away. We followed them.
[Kim Seok-ki / People Power Party Lawmaker: "(Do you think former leader Han Dong-hoon will play a role?) Well, we need to join forces. I don't mean any specific individual, but all of us must unite to achieve a change of government..."]
The destination was a forum attended by Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon.
A crowd of 38 People Power Party lawmakers gathered there.
[Kwon Young-se / People Power Party Lawmaker: "(The topic of the forum) is usually Seoul issues, but many lawmakers with no ties to Seoul showed up."]
[Shin Dong-wook / People Power Party Lawmaker: "With the events overlapping, well, a slightly subtle atmosphere has developed."]
There were 13 lawmakers who made an appearance at both events.
[Koh Dong-jin / People Power Party Lawmaker: "(What role do you think the two will play (in conservative unity)?) Aren't they people who have never been in conflict with each other? I think this could serve as an opportunity to create a large platform for conservatives."]
Mayor Oh also responded to calls for conservative unity.
[Oh Se-hoon / Seoul Mayor: "I will meet with anyone in our party, including Lawmaker Han Dong-hoon, and seek harmony and unity through open-hearted dialogue..."]
Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok also made a surprise appearance at the forum Mayor Oh attended.
[Jang Dong-hyeok / People Power Party Leader: "Welcome, Mayor."]
[Oh Se-hoon / Seoul Mayor: "Thank you."]
When asked about conservative unity, leader Jang reiterated his stance ruling out Han Dong-hoon.
[Jang Dong-hyeok / People Power Party Leader: "I believe that growing conflict runs counter to the essence of unity and solidarity."]
At an event held at the party headquarters, leader Jang, joined by party leadership, unveiled the party's own budget proposal, vowing to halt runaway government spending and waste of taxpayers' money.
