Police have launched a formal investigation into the online leak of personal information belonging to 168 passengers on the presidential aircraft, including President Lee Jae-myung and the First Lady.
The National Office of Investigation's Cyber Terror Investigation Unit under the National Police Agency announced today (November 3) that it has upgraded its preliminary inquiry into the Air Force One passenger list leak to a formal investigation.
The leaked file contained the names, dates of birth, and passport numbers of senior government officials, security personnel, and accompanying reporters who traveled together on a European tour.
The file had been posted on a paid security-related website for nearly five months before access to it was blocked.
During a briefing this morning, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it is additionally investigating the specific perpetrators and circumstances of the leak.
The presidential office held an emergency meeting chaired by the Chief of Staff and ordered an investigation into how the leak occurred and the accountability of the related agencies.
Measures are also underway to reissue passports for those whose personal information was leaked, including President Lee and the First Lady.
