Multiple explosions were heard near Qeshm Island, a strategic location for Iran in the Strait of Hormuz, on the local time 2nd, according to Iran's state-run IRNA news agency.
The cause of the explosions has not yet been determined.
Iranian authorities have not yet released an official statement regarding the incident.
Qeshm Island is a key Iranian military stronghold and a densely concentrated area for major oil and gas infrastructure.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) maintains a forward naval base and military facilities related to missiles and drones on Qeshm Island.
Large-scale energy infrastructure used to store crude oil and natural gas produced near the Persian Gulf and load them onto transport vessels is also built on Qeshm Island.
The United States has previously discussed bombing Qeshm Island as one of the measures to pressure Iran into compromise following the outbreak of war with Iran.
