Police, who are currently detaining and investigating a biological father in his 30s on charges of starving his 17-month-old daughter to death, have confirmed that they have also booked the biological mother on child neglect charges.
The Women and Youth Investigation Unit of the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency announced today (Nov. 2) that it has booked a woman in her 20s, surnamed A, on charges of child abuse by neglect.
According to police investigations, A left home early last month after a fight with the biological father. Police have reportedly uncovered evidence that A neglected and failed to care for her daughter even before leaving the house.
Previously, on the night of October 28, the biological father reported that the child was not breathing, and although the child was rushed to the hospital, she died.
While the biological father claimed to have fed the child formula twice a day, police have received a preliminary verbal opinion from the National Forensic Service stating that the cause of death was malnutrition.
