Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Kim Jung-kwan announced that he will build a national growth platform by connecting three major mega projects: semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI) data centers, and physical AI.

Minister Kim made the remarks during a keynote speech at the National Economic Advisory Council public forum titled "Three Mega Projects: Tasks to Become a National Growth Platform," held at Ferrum Tower in Seoul today (Nov. 2).

He emphasized, "The total investment plan amounting to 1,600 trillion won is an overwhelming scale equivalent to about 60% of the gross domestic product (GDP) in the year the projects commence," adding, "Now, when the AI revolution has placed all nations on a new starting line, is a critical opportunity to lead the future global industry."

In particular, he stated that to ensure the private sector's investment plans are executed without a hitch, he will speed up the fast-track processing of permits and the enactment of a super-regional special zone act, thereby bringing forward the operation timing of semiconductor fabrication plants (fabs) by more than two years.

As a core strategy, he presented the establishment of a national growth platform connecting semiconductors, AI data centers, and physical AI.

It is a structure where semiconductors supply AI computing power, AI data centers support AI learning and utilization, and physical AI applies this to manufacturing sites to dramatically increase productivity.

The vision is to create a virtuous cycle ecosystem where these three pillars drive manufacturing innovation across all industries, which in turn leads to future technology investments.

To support this, Minister Kim presented the 'M.E.G.A.' strategy, standing for Mobilize national capabilities, Engage all economic entities, Generate new growth engines, and Amplify results.

Minister Kim stated, "We will create a virtuous cycle where mega projects lead to mega growth."

At the forum, following the opening remarks by Kim Sung-shik, Vice Chairman of the National Economic Advisory Council, and the keynote speech by Minister Kim, presentations and discussions were held by seven experts in related fields.
