A man in his 50s has been arrested by police after turning off his electronic tracking anklet during a period of probation and threatening a rampage.
The Seoul Jongno Police Station announced that it had urgently arrested a man in his 50s, referred to as A, yesterday (November 1) on charges of damaging his electronic anklet.
A, who was subject to a location-tracking electronic device attachment order and a provisional probation measure due to a stalking case, allegedly told a probation officer that he would "wreak havoc with a weapon at the Blue House, the National Police Agency, and the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency" before turning off the power to his electronic anklet.
Police, who were dispatched following a report from the probation officer, urgently arrested A on a street in Naesu-dong, Jongno-gu, around 12:20 p.m. yesterday.
It was reported that no weapon was found on A.
The Jongno Police Station transferred custody of A to the Songpa Police Station, which had previously investigated and referred him for violating the Stalking Punishment Act.
