The Korea Media and Communications Commission (KMCC) resolved on November 2 to issue corrective orders to seven regional commercial broadcasters, including G1 Broadcasting, for violating the requirement to report coverage related to their largest shareholders.

At its 47th plenary meeting on the same day, the commission decided to issue corrective orders to Gwangju Broadcasting, Ulsan Broadcasting, Jeonju Television, Jeju Broadcasting, G1 Broadcasting, Cheongju Broadcasting, and TBC, which either failed to submit or submitted late their records of news reports and programming related to their largest shareholders and specially related parties, as mandated under their license renewal conditions.

G1 Broadcasting omitted 6, 10, and 4 reports concerning its chairman—a specially related party to the largest shareholder—in the first and second halves of 2025 and the first half of 2026, respectively.

The other six broadcasters submitted their records for the first half of 2025 in late August of that year, missing the designated submission deadline.

Some commissioners suggested issuing administrative guidance to Gwangju Broadcasting and Jeju Broadcasting, which had no broadcasts related to their largest shareholders, but a majority supported the corrective orders, citing the critical importance of license renewal conditions.

The KMCC also decided to impose a fine of 5 million won on Mokpo MBC for failing to report a change in its head of programming.

Mokpo MBC replaced its head of programming on April 2, 2025, but did not file the required report.

Meanwhile, the KMCC secretariat reported that it plans to reject the application for modification approval for a corporate merger pursued by TRN, a home shopping channel operator, with Tcast.

The action follows the review committee's decision to put the review on hold after TRN failed to submit materials necessary to evaluate the merger's effects and financial plans, despite four requests for supplementary documentation.
