Russia has preemptively thwarted a suspected terrorist plot targeting a major museum in Moscow, based on a tip from the United States.
According to CNN on the 1st local time, Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) announced that information provided by U.S. law enforcement authorities led to the arrest of a Russian teenager.
The suspect is accused of preparing a terrorist attack targeting the Tsarytsino Museum-Reserve in Moscow.
According to the FSB, the suspect posted a video on TikTok showing themselves wearing tactical gear and holding an object resembling an automatic weapon, along with photos taken at the museum-reserve and the caption "Found the place."
The FSB stated that the suspect subscribed to a neo-Nazi channel on Telegram and intensively searched for past terrorist incidents.
The FSB expressed gratitude to the U.S. side for providing the intelligence.
Earlier, the U.S. Embassy in Russia issued a security alert yesterday, stating that it had identified a "credible threat of a mass casualty event at the Tsarytsino Museum-Reserve."
At the time, the U.S. Embassy explained that it was coordinating a response with Russian authorities.
The United States has previously provided terrorism-related intelligence to Russia.
In 2017, the U.S. informed Russia of a planned terrorist attack targeting the Kazan Cathedral in St. Petersburg, prompting President Vladimir Putin to personally express his gratitude to President Donald Trump.
In 2024 as well, the U.S. warned Russia about the possibility of an attack targeting Moscow by the Islamic State (IS).
At the time, President Putin dismissed the warning, but days later, armed assailants attacked Crocus City Hall on the outskirts of Moscow, resulting in over 140 deaths.
