Two crew members aboard a fishing boat that flooded after hitting a reef off the coast of Geoje, South Gyeongsang Province, have been rescued by the Coast Guard.

According to the Changwon Coast Guard on October 31, a report was received at around 10:00 PM the previous night stating that a 1-ton coastal gillnet fishing boat was flooding in the waters near Ttanseom Island in Jangmok-myeon, Geoje.

The Coast Guard deployed a motorized rescue board and rescued all two crew members approximately 30 minutes after receiving the report.

As a result of the accident, a female crew member in her 60s sustained minor injuries to her face.

Authorities determined that the fishing boat departed from Doman Port in Jindong-myeon, Masanhappo-gu, Changwon, at around 3:30 PM the previous day, and ran aground on a reef while working in the waters off Geoje after sunset.

The Coast Guard plans to mobilize a crane vessel and other equipment to relocate the fishing boat.

Kim Eon-ho, chief of the Changwon Coast Guard, urged, "Please be fully aware of risk factors such as reefs in advance during maritime operations and navigation, and pay close attention to safe operations."
