Suspions have been raised that cryptocurrency exchange Binance has fallen victim to a multi-billion dollar hacking attack.
Binance is the largest exchange where investors around the world buy and sell cryptocurrencies.
It operates an insurance fund of approximately 1 billion dollars to prepare for hacking incidents.
Binance stated that it is aware of a potential security issue and is conducting an investigation.
However, it added that no impact on user funds has been confirmed yet.
As the hacking suspicions spread, coin issuers Tether and Circle froze their respective tokens to prevent them from being traded on Binance.
Bitcoin prices plummeted by around 4%, dropping to the 78,000 dollar range, the lowest in a month.
In the wake of the suspected Binance hack, Upbit in South Korea posted a notice of caution to its customers this morning (October 30).
The notice advised users to exercise caution when withdrawing funds to Binance, citing that security incidents and signs of asset theft have been identified on the platform.
Previously, at domestic exchange Bithumb, an internal mobile work system was hacked on October 27, resulting in the leakage of personal information including resident registration numbers, account numbers, and copies of ID cards for 844 customers.
At ProBit, a coin-market exchange, approximately 100 million won worth of virtual assets were drained from an online wallet on October 24, continuing a series of hacking incidents both domestically and internationally.
