The story of how a wallet found on the street during a trip to Japan blossomed into a touching relationship transcending borders and age will be revealed.
SBS's 'Curious Stories Y', airing tonight at 8:50 PM, will unveil the special reunion between Jeong Tae-gwan, the "young Korean man who returned a lost wallet in Japan" who recently heated up internet communities and social media, and an 82-year-old Japanese grandfather.
The protagonist of the story, Jeong Tae-gwan, happened to find a wallet containing cash equivalent to about 1.3 million Korean won near a hot spring during his trip to Japan. Hesitating in front of the wallet filled entirely with cash and no credit cards, Tae-gwan thought, "This must be devastating despair for someone," and immediately set out to find the owner, eventually meeting the 82-year-old Japanese grandfather at a bus stop. The grandfather was reportedly in a desperate situation after losing even his lodging expenses for the trip, and had the bus left just 5 minutes later, the two might have missed each other entirely.
Their connection continued even after returning to Korea. The grandfather sent a witty email to Jeong Tae-gwan inviting him to their next meeting, writing, "If you don't come early, we'll be meeting in heaven instead of Hiroshima." Operating a personal website for over 20 years, the grandfather referred to Tae-gwan as a "fine young man" and recorded his gratitude, drawing significant attention from netizens.
The second meeting between the two, finally realized in Hiroshima, Japan, and the warm story contained within it, will be revealed on 'Curious Stories Y', airing today, Friday night at 8:50 PM.
