Actor Choi Bul-am, who represented the image of the father of our times, has passed away at the age of 87.
Choi, who had been receiving inpatient treatment at a hospital in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, reportedly passed away at around 10 p.m. last night (October 29).
He had been dedicated to rehabilitation after undergoing surgery for a herniated lumbar disc in March of last year, but his health recently deteriorated rapidly, it was reported.
Born in Incheon in 1939, the late actor entered the path of acting by taking the stage in the play "Hamlet" in 1959.
He advanced to TV dramas in 1967, appearing in numerous works and literally becoming the history of South Korean television broadcasting.
In "Chief Inspector," which began airing in 1971, he played Chief Park for 18 years, establishing himself as a symbol of a righteous detective, and in South Korea's longest-running drama "Country Diaries," he became a "spiritual hometown" for viewers as Chairman Kim of Yangchon-ri.
His hearty laughter, tilting his head back and making a "ha-ha" sound, became the subject of the "Choi Bul-am Series" of humor in the 1990s, bringing joy to the public.
In 1992, he briefly stepped into politics by being elected as a member of the National Assembly, but after failing to win re-election, he returned to his main profession as an actor.

Returning to the theatrical stage after 25 years, the late actor defined acting by calling himself a "clown."

The mortuary for the late actor, who has put an end to his 67-year acting career, is scheduled to be set up at Asan Medical Center in Seoul this morning.
