Although Samsung Electronics continues to break records every quarter amid a semiconductor super cycle, it fails to smile on the actual days of its earnings announcements.
According to the Korea Exchange and other sources, as of 3:20 p.m. today (October 29), Samsung Electronics was trading at 230,000 won, down 4.96% from the previous trading day.
Early in the session, the stock trended upward, at one point rising 2.89% to 249,000 won, but it turned downward following the release of its detailed third-quarter earnings.
Samsung Electronics announced today that its third-quarter consolidated operating profit reached 107.4405 trillion won, marking a 783.1% increase compared to the same period last year.
Revenue rose 126.9% over the same period, allowing both operating profit and revenue to break record highs for the fourth consecutive quarter.
Along with this, the company announced a third-quarter cash dividend amounting to 30 trillion won.
Combining the dividend amounts from the first half of this year and the third quarter, a total of 35 trillion won is being returned to shareholders as cash dividends.
However, despite the record-breaking earnings and the announcement of tens of trillions of won in cash dividends, the stock price instead shifted downward and later expanded its losses to 6.61% आयुष्मान.
This is not the first time Samsung Electronics' stock price has fallen on the day of its stellar earnings and shareholder return announcements.
The divergence between earnings and closing stock prices began on January 29 of this year, when fourth-quarter earnings from last year were announced.
Thanks to the semiconductor super cycle, it achieved the largest quarterly revenue and operating profit in history, but the stock finished the day down 1.05%.
Subsequently, on April 30 when first-quarter earnings were announced, the stock fell 2.43%, and on July 30, the day of the second-quarter earnings announcement, the regular trading session closed down 0.72%.
Even on October 8, the day of the third-quarter preliminary earnings announcement when it achieved 100 trillion won in quarterly operating profit for the first time in domestic corporate history, Samsung Electronics fell 2.42%.
Securities analysts interpreted that while Samsung has consistently posted strong earnings during these periods, the results fell short of soaring market expectations.
There are also disappointed reactions regarding the scale of the shareholder returns.
Particularly for the third quarter, given that operating profit alone surpassed 100 trillion won, expectations were high that more profits would be returned to shareholders, and analyses suggest that falling short of these expectations dragged down the stock price.
