Police investigating the case of a body abandoned in a residential area in Guro-gu, Seoul, have identified the deceased and requested arrest warrants for the suspects involved in abandoning the body.
The Seoul Guro Police Station announced on the afternoon of October 28 that they "have requested arrest warrants for two suspects in the body abandonment case."
Police are continuing to investigate the victim's movements, the circumstances leading to the death, and the relationship between the deceased and the suspects who abandoned the body.
No evidence of foul play or a specific cause of death has been confirmed yet.
Following an autopsy conducted on the morning of October 28, the National Forensic Service provided a verbal opinion stating, "It is difficult to determine the cause and date of death due to decomposition and other factors."
The National Forensic Service plans to send the final autopsy results to the police at a later date.
Police conducted the first round of questioning against the suspects for body abandonment on October 27.
Two South Korean men in their 60s and 80s, identified as Mr. A and Mr. B respectively, who are facing charges of abandoning a corpse and instigating the abandonment of a corpse, admitted to the act during police questioning.
Mr. B, who instructed Mr. A to abandon the body, is the owner of the multi-family housing in Guro-gu where the body was initially discovered.
It was found that Mr. A had previously lived in the house as a tenant and usually followed Mr. B like a father.
Neither of the two men was found to have any specific occupation.
Considering that the body was initially located in front of the housing owned by Mr. B, police are investigating whether the deceased was a tenant living in Mr. B's house.
During police questioning, Mr. B stated that he did not know the object he told Mr. A to throw away was a body, claiming that he saw something resembling a doll and instructed Mr. A to dispose of it.
On the other hand, Mr. A stated that while he suspected what he was discarding might be a body, he carried out the disposal following Mr. B's instructions.
It was found that Mr. A carried the body alone and proceeded with the abandonment following Mr. B's instructions, and was not spotted by residents at the time.
Police plan to determine whether the suspects were involved in murder or other crimes prior to abandoning the body.
Although no clear signs of foul play have been discovered so far, additional charges such as murder could be applied if evidence of foul play is confirmed.
The body was previously discovered by a sanitation worker affiliated with Guro-gu Office at a residential waste disposal site at around 11:00 AM on October 27.
The body was wrapped in plastic and newspapers, and it had been left unattended since the afternoon of October 22, five days prior, emitting a foul odor. It was reportedly in a partially decomposed, dried, and mummified state.
Responding to the sanitation worker's report, police tracked the suspects using CCTV footage and emergency arrested Mr. A and Mr. B at their respective residences at around 4:00 PM on the same day.
