Actor Lee Jae-wook, who is currently serving in the military, made a surprise appearance via a video message at the press conference for the Netflix series "Dead-End Job."
On the morning of October 28, the press conference for the new Netflix original series "Dead-End Job" was held at Fairmont Ambassador Seoul in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. Director Kim Da-min, creator Han Jun-hee, and actors Kim Minha and Lee Hee Jun attended the event, while Lee Jae-wook, who was unable to attend due to his military service, sent a video message.
In the video, Lee Jae-wook greeted everyone, saying, "I play Hyeok-jun, who gets the opportunity for an ultra-high-paying part-time job from the rock bottom of his life. The entire story begins when Hyeok-jun visits a job agency offering a lucrative gig paying 50 times the hourly rate. Fulfilling my national defense duty from where I am, I will be cheering on 'Dead-End Job' along with everyone."
"Dead-End Job" is a survival-horror series that unfolds against the backdrop of "Spider Labor," a strange employment agency offering wages starting from 50 times the hourly rate, as young man Hyeok-jun (played by Lee Jae-wook) is deployed to nightmare-like labor sites.
Director Kim Da-min explained, "Hyeok-jun is a character who evokes a lot of sympathy and feels very grounded in real life. Even while struggling and tumbling through hardship, his fierce tenacity suddenly surfaces when faced with survival, making you want to root for him." Creator Han Jun-hee revealed the reason for casting him, stating, "Actor Lee Jae-wook is an actor with ambivalent charm who can simultaneously express firmness and flexibility, subservience and stubbornness. In this project, you will be able to see hundreds of faces of Lee Jae-wook."
Heartwarming stories from his fellow cast members also followed. Kim Minha, who worked alongside him as siblings in the series, recalled, "Even though Jae-wook is three years younger than me, he took great care of me on set." She added, "We filmed comfortably and enjoyably without any discomfort. The real-sibling chemistry, where we bicker whenever our eyes meet, was captured very well."
Lee Hee Jun also testified to Lee Jae-wook's warm personality, saying, "He must have had a really tough time physically himself, but I was surprised to see how he would bring fans over if it felt hot and look after every single supporting actor."
In "Dead-End Job," Director Kim Da-min, who wrote the Netflix series "A Killer Paradox" and drew attention with the film "FAQ," takes on directing a full-length series for the first time. In addition, Director Han Jun-hee, who has showcased a solid artistic world through the Netflix series "D.P." and "Weak Hero Class 1," took charge as the creator.
Lee Jae-wook plays the role of Hyeok-jun, a young man who dives into an ultra-high-paying daily wage gig to make a living and encounters bizarre events. Go Min-si plays Yeon-ju, who lingers around Spider Labor and approaches Hyeok-jun, while Kim Minha plays Hyeok-jun's younger sister Ji-yoon, a realistic character who fears going broke more than encountering ghosts. Lee Hee Jun transforms into the president who runs the suspicious employment agency "Spider Labor."
"Dead-End Job" consists of eight episodes in total and will be released on Netflix on October 30 at 5:00 PM.
