[Anchor] First, there were citizens who stepped up to rescue people at a seven-vehicle multi-car crash site during their morning commute, even before firefighters arrived.
On the morning of October 15, a passenger car struck a 2.5-ton truck traveling ahead of it on an automobile-only road in Oksan-myeon, Gunsan.
The impact caused following vehicles to crash into one another in succession, leading to a seven-vehicle chain-reaction collision.
Because it was during the morning rush hour, the road quickly became congested, and secondary accidents were a major concern due to the wrecked vehicles and debris.
Just then, 20 soldiers from the Cheonma Unit, who were traveling to participate in an emergency rescue training exercise, spotted the accident scene.
The soldiers immediately stopped their vehicles, ran to the site, checked the wrecked cars one by one, and safely rescued an injured person bleeding from inside a vehicle.
While some soldiers called 119, others stepped in to control traffic, guide vehicles onto detour routes, and clear debris from the road to secure a clear pathway for ambulances.
Thanks to the soldiers' swift initial response, firefighters who arrived at the scene were able to quickly transport three injured people to the hospital.
