Actor Kim Soo-hyun's agency announced that police have forwarded the mother of the late Kim Sae-ron and others to prosecutors in connection with the criminal complaints and accusations filed regarding the bereaved family's claims that she dated Kim when she was a minor.
Gold Medalist, Kim Soo-hyun's agency, released an official statement on October 26, stating, "We are informing you of the police investigation results regarding multiple complaints and accusations filed by actor Kim Soo-hyun and our agency against the bereaved family of the late Kim Sae-ron and an individual impersonating the deceased's aunt."
The agency stated, "Following Kim Se-ui of Hover Lab being detained and indicted in connection with the related case, accomplices who participated in a series of crimes alongside Kim Se-ui, such as spreading false information, have also been recognized for criminal charges and forwarded to prosecutors." It explained that those forwarded this time include the deceased's mother and "the individual impersonating the deceased's aunt," and that charges such as violation of the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection (defamation through the dissemination of false information), violation of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (distribution of content filmed using cameras, etc.), and attempted coercion were applied to them. The deceased's father received a non-forwarding decision.
According to the agency, a separate cognizant investigation by the police was also conducted regarding accomplices who were not initially included in the targets of the complaint.
Gold Medalist stated, "Attorney Boo Ji-seok, who led two press conferences using false and manipulated materials (fabricated KakaoTalk messages and manipulated AI voice) confirmed by investigative agencies on behalf of the bereaved family, and Kwon Young-chan, operator of the YouTube channel 'Kwon Young-chan TV', were also recognized for charges and forwarded to prosecutors." Boo Ji-seok faces charges of defamation under the Criminal Act and violation of the Information and Communications Network Act (defamation through the dissemination of false information), while Kwon Young-chan faces charges of violation of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (distribution of content filmed using cameras, etc.).
The agency added, "We deeply thank the investigative agencies for their hard work in closely verifying the facts based on massive materials and objective evidence to uncover the reality of the crimes and the participants."
A forwarding is the stage where the police conclude an investigation and send the case to prosecutors, and prosecutors determine whether to indict.
Meanwhile, Hover Lab representative Kim Se-ui was detained and indicted in June and is currently on trial at the Seoul Central District Court's Criminal Settlement Division 26.
