Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, who was recently acquitted in his appellate trial over the suspicion of Myung Tae-kyun covering the costs of public opinion polls, is resuming his "dining politics" by holding consecutive dinners with People Power Party lawmakers who visited the court to support him.
Mayor Oh has invited the lawmakers who visited the court to show their support on October 23 to a dinner at the mayor's official residence in Hannam-dong, Seoul, this evening (October 26).
Mayor Oh's camp stated that the gathering was arranged to express gratitude to the lawmakers who personally visited the court.
Attendees include People Power Party lawmakers Yoon Sang-hyun, Kim Seok-ki, Shin Sung-beom, Lee Man-hee, Kim Mi-ae, Cho Eun-hee, Cho Jung-hoon, and Lee Sang-hwi, along with Reform Party lawmaker Lee Jun-seok, who was also present at the scene at the time.
Dinners will be held at the same location tomorrow for lawmakers who are unable to attend today due to National Assembly audit schedules and other commitments.
In political circles, observers note that Mayor Oh, having shaken off his judicial risks with the appellate acquittal, is expected to accelerate Seoul's municipal administration while using dining politics as a stepping stone to embark in earnest on political moves aimed at the unification and reform of the conservative opposition bloc.
Mayor Oh, who showed a wide range of activities by digesting a packed schedule throughout the weekend right after the ruling—including attending the National Assembly photojournalists family athletic meet and paying his respects at the mortuary of the late former Minister of Home Affairs Choi Hyung-woo—also plans to have dinner next month with lawmakers belonging to the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee and the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, who conducted the parliamentary audit of the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
