During a campaign rally in Georgia on the 24th (local time) to support the midterm elections, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that German automaker Audi plans to invest 4.2 billion dollars (approximately 5.57 trillion won) to build a plant in the region.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Perry, Georgia, that day, President Trump stated, "Audi has decided to break ground next month on a massive plant in Macon, Georgia, investing 4.2 billion dollars to produce 200,000 vehicles annually."
He went on to claim that this investment is the largest single investment in the history of the U.S. automotive industry.
He added, "Without tariffs, Audi would not have come to the United States," emphasizing that his tariff policy is successfully drawing investment from overseas companies into the U.S.
Gernot Döllner, CEO of Audi, also took the podium that day and said, "We plan to produce our largest and most luxurious SUVs in Macon, Georgia," adding, "This is a long-term investment made because we believe in the U.S. market."
President Trump also highlighted support for farmers in Georgia.
He stated that 12 billion dollars had been provided to farmers to compensate for damages caused by unfair foreign trade practices, of which 212 million dollars will go to farmers in Georgia.
Regarding the rise in oil prices due to the war with Iran, President Trump said, "Once the war ends, prices will drop dramatically in a short period," and noted, "The U.S. oil and gas industry is making hundreds of billions of dollars."
While acknowledging that criticism could arise over the administration boasting about energy industry profits while Americans suffer from high oil prices, he emphasized, "We are making a tremendous amount of money."
Targeting Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff that day, President Trump criticized him as a "disgrace to Georgia," alleging that he supported policies that brought about illegal immigration and high inflation.
Urging continued support for Republican Senate candidate Mike Collins and gubernatorial candidate Rick Jackson, he repeatedly encouraged voters by saying, "Think of me as being on the ballot."
