Two South Korean experts have been jointly named to key positions in the steering groups under the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Telecommunications and Information Working Group (TEL).
The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on October 24 that Jang Joo-dong, a researcher at the National Radio Research Agency, and Park Jung-eun, a researcher at the Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI), have been elected as secretary and vice-secretary of their respective steering groups.
Their two-year terms will run from next year through 2028.
Jang will serve as secretary of the steering group on ICT conformity assessment and interoperability, while Park will serve as vice-secretary of the steering group on ICT development and policy.
APEC TEL is a consultative body that promotes cooperation in ICT development, policy, and regulation within the Asia-Pacific region. It drives policy and technical cooperation among member economies centering on three steering groups: the Development Policy Steering Group (DPSG), the Conformance and Interoperability Steering Group (CISG), and the ICT Security and Trust Steering Group.
Following the previous election of Kang Ha-yeon, a senior research fellow at KISDI, as APEC TEL co-chair for 2025–2026, South Korea has secured additional key leadership positions in the steering groups, reinforcing its ongoing leadership in the APEC ICT sector.
