Reuters reported on the 23rd (local time) that Russian diesel has departed for the United States for the first time following the relaxation of U.S. sanctions on Russian petroleum exports.

According to London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) market research data obtained by Reuters, a Malta-flagged oil tanker loaded 40,000 tons of Russian diesel at the Russian port of Primorsk the previous day.

The tanker is scheduled to arrive in New York, U.S., on November 7.

The Russian side also confirmed the resumption of Russian diesel exports.

Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that day, "There has already been an announcement from the Ministry of Energy that the first tanker has set sail for its actual recipients, meaning the buyers," adding, "Additional shipments will continue at a steady pace moving forward."

U.S. President Donald Trump announced a temporary waiver of sanctions on Russian petroleum exports on the 9th of this month, allowing the U.S. to import Russian diesel.

At the same time, he stated that he had agreed with Russian President Vladimir Putin for Russia to immediately export 300,000 tons of diesel, followed by more than 500,000 tons next month.

Following the European Union (EU) implementation of a full embargo on Russian petroleum products after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Russia has primarily exported diesel to countries such as Brazil and Türkiye.
