The highly anticipated Netflix series "Tantara", bringing together writer Noh Hee-kyung and actors Song Hyekyo and Gong Yoo, will meet viewers worldwide on December 11.
On October 22, Netflix confirmed the premiere date of its original series "Tantara" (written by Noh Hee-kyung, directed by Lee Yoon-jung) for Friday, December 11, alongside the release of a date announcement poster.
Set against the backdrop of the South Korean entertainment industry in the 1960s to 1980s—an era rife with brutality and violence—"Tantara" depicts the coming-of-age story of individuals who had nothing but threw themselves entirely into chasing brilliant success. It marks writer Noh Hee-kyung's first new project in about four years, following acclaimed dramas such as "More Beautiful Than a Flower", "Worlds Within", "That Winter, the Wind Blows", "It's Okay, That's Love", and "Our Blues".
Song Hyekyo takes on the role of Min-ja, who moves past an impoverished childhood to dive into the record industry, while Gong Yoo stars as Dong-gu, her childhood friend who stays by her side as they run toward their dreams together. In addition, Kim Seol-hyun joins as Min-hee, who charges toward success with daring charm, and Cha Seung-won plays Seok Gil-yeo, the era's top composer known for turning rookies into stars, promising powerful acting synergy.
The released poster captures the vibrant lives of the characters in a panoramic design centered around a turntable. The commanding presence of the stellar ensemble cast immediately draws attention—from Min-ja and Dong-gu, who endure poor childhoods, work various jobs including waiting tables, and grow into rookie managers; to Min-hee singing with sparkling eyes; Seok Gil-yeo playing the saxophone; Lee Hanee as Yang-ja, singing with an expression filled with desperation and excitement; and Na Moon-hee as Mal-soon, carrying the joys and sorrows of passing years.
Depicting the brilliant and passionate growth of the era's greatest entertainers, the Netflix series "Tantara" will be released worldwide on December 11 via Netflix.
