President Lee Jae-myung stated, "In healthcare, which is directly linked to human life, artificial intelligence (AI) technology must be used safely and responsibly, and it should be utilized to bridge the global healthcare divide."
President Lee made the remarks in a written congratulatory message sent to the World Bio Summit 2026, co-hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the World Health Organization (WHO) at COEX Magok in Seoul on Wednesday.
Kim Kyung-ja, senior presidential secretary for social affairs at Cheong Wa Dae, read the president's written address on site.
At the event, the "AI Healthcare Seoul Declaration" was unveiled, calling for the benefits of AI innovation to be shared equitably by all, the safe and responsible use of AI, and the practice of international solidarity.
President Lee emphasized, "Narrowing the gap between nations in healthcare and ensuring that everyone can access adequate medical benefits is a calling of our time that we must address together."
He added, "I hope that with this declaration, the value of 'basic AI healthcare' pursued by the Republic of Korea will spread widely across the world, and that nations can join hands to strengthen health security and protect human life and dignity."
