Director Maggie Kang, who achieved worldwide acclaim with the Netflix animated film "KPop Demon Hunters", has expressed her ambition to take on live-action films.

Director Maggie Kang recently participated as a speaker at the CNN global leadership forum "Global Perspectives: In Bangkok," held in Bangkok, Thailand. Following that, she shared her pride in Korean culture, her creative driving force, and her future plans through fashion magazine Marie Claire Korea's "Wonderous Women" project.

"Good fortune is important, but it is also important to create an environment where you can encounter that luck yourself," Director Maggie Kang emphasized. "I believe that when you work hard to put yourself in a position where opportunities can find you, luck will follow".

She also spoke about the sense of responsibility she feels as a female director of Korean descent. "Because opportunities don't come around often. When one arrives, I try not to let it slip away. I want to show the world that we can tell these kinds of stories too," Director Maggie Kang said, expressing her desire to unfold diverse stories through the opportunities that come her way.

Furthermore, she revealed her desire for change and new challenges. "I want to challenge myself with live-action films as well," Director Maggie Kang said, adding, "I would also like to tackle stories with a slightly darker tone, different from what I have done so far".

"KPop Demon Hunters," released by Director Maggie Kang in 2025, surpassed 500 million cumulative views (as of March 2026), becoming the most-watched film in Netflix history. Maggie Kang is currently preparing a sequel alongside Director Chris Appelhans, who co-directed the first film. The currently known target production timeline is 2029.
