The film 'The People Upstairs,' which drew attention as actor Ha Jung-woo's fourth directorial effort, has been reborn with a Hollywood touch. The movie 'The Perfect Invitation' has confirmed its theatrical release for Wednesday, December 2, and unveiled its main poster.
'The Perfect Invitation' is a comedy-drama about Angela, who prepares a perfect dinner, and her lukewarm husband, Joe, as they get caught up in the unreserved honesty of the upstairs couple and spend the most chaotic night of their lives. It is an American remake of the Spanish film 'Sentimental' (directed by Cesc Gay), which was previously remade in South Korea in December of last year by Ha Jung-woo under the title 'The People Upstairs.'
The American version brought together the production team of the 97th Academy Awards-winning film 'Conclave,' and is distributed by A24, which has been writing a new box office history with consecutive successes like 'Marty Supreme' and 'Backrooms.'
The cast is also stellar. Seth Rogen, Olivia Wilde, Penélope Cruz, and Edward Norton—actors known for their distinct individuality and solid acting skills—take on key roles, raising anticipation for their on-screen chemistry. Olivia Wilde not only stars in the film but also co-directs.
Along with the release confirmation, the main poster immediately captures attention by portraying the subtle tension between the jaded couple Angela & Joe, who are seemingly chatting cordially, and the suspicious upstairs couple Piña & Hawk. Accompanied by a crumpled and torn invitation, the tagline 'How about we try being completely honest tonight?' heightens expectations for an outrageously spicy comedy born from unpredictable witty banter.
In addition, the ironic title, far from perfection, wittily depicts 'love and marriage' and 'the monotony and recovery of relationships' through provocative dialogue that rejects the ordinary, while sparking curiosity about what kind of message it will deliver to add depth to life.
The movie will hit theaters on December 2.
