The front of a truck is severely damaged, and a man is being carried out of the driver seat on a stretcher.
At around 11:00 PM yesterday, a 2.5-ton truck plowed into a maintenance vehicle parked on the shoulder and a man in his 30s near the Bukdaejeon Interchange on a branch of the Honam Expressway in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon.
The man, who was working as a traffic signaler, was rushed to a hospital in cardiac arrest and eventually died. The driver of the 2.5-ton truck was also seriously injured.
At the time, road structure maintenance work was underway, with the second lane and the shoulder blocked off.
Authorities believe the accident occurred after a dump truck abruptly changed lanes to avoid the work zone, and the following 2.5-ton truck swerved to avoid colliding with the dump truck.
[Police Official: As the dump truck moved into the first lane, (the truck driver) abruptly turned the steering wheel to the right to avoid it, resulting in the collision with the worker and the work vehicle on the shoulder.]
