The Serious Crime Investigation Office (SCIO) has conducted a forensic analysis of the office computer used by Lim Eun-jung, head of the Gwangju Regional Serious Crime Investigation Office, who has publicly opposed the appointment of Chief Kim Ji-yong.
Officials from the SCIO Inspection Office visited the Gwangju Regional Serious Crime Investigation Office on this afternoon and performed a forensic examination of Lim's work PC.
According to reports, the SCIO officials spent about an hour at the scene imaging (a process of making a complete, exact copy of digital storage media) Lim's PC before returning.
Lim is currently under investigation because she previously criticized Chief Kim publicly via social media and other channels.
She claimed that when Kim served as the head of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office Inspection Division 1, he covered up the sexual assault allegations against former prosecutor Jin Dong-gyun that she had raised.
She also voiced her opposition to Kim's appointment by pointing out that while he served as a senior prosecutor, he argued for the prosecution's supplementary investigation powers, and was part of the investigative command line for cases such as the Channel A case and the illegal departure ban case involving former Vice Minister of Justice Kim Hak-ui.
Instructed by Minister of the Interior and Safety Yoon Ho-jung, the SCIO headquarters launched an inspection into Lim on October 12 to examine whether she violated the obligations of political neutrality and maintenance of dignity for public officials.
Huh Sung-hwan, the acting head of the SCIO Inspection Office, visited Lim on October 15 to conduct an interview, initiating a full-scale inspection.
On this morning, the day after the interview, Lim visited the May 18 National Cemetery and other sites to pay her respects, stating, "If Chief Kim Ji-yong does anything wrong, I will not hesitate to offer bitter criticism and advice, just as I have done so far."
